The Sutter Buttes Gem & Mineral Society was founded in 1990.
Our purpose is to educate ourselves and the public in the art of rockhounding and enjoyment in the hobby of collecting rocks, fossils and minerals.
Our Mother Earth is filled with surprises that are exciting to uncover. We have monthly educational meetings where you might learn the art of lapidary or maybe the history of gold or goldpanning, you might learn how to polish a stone so smooth it could be used to make a pendant or how a stalagtite is formed.
Sutter Buttes Gem & Mineral Society is a member of the California Federation of Mineralogical Societies and the Cooperative Field Trip Chairmen's Association and affiliated with the American Federation of Mineralogical Societies.
